How the Idea of Kniholo Came to Life

We are a married couple Adam and Nina. Since the day our son was born, the number of things in our house raised, while the space has significantly diminished. Our son needed his own room soon, and so we reconstructed the interior and I lost my reading nook, my favourite personal space with a large library and an armchair. I tried to figure out where to move the armchair and the library. As the only possibility remained the living-room, but there was no place for both things next to the sofa.

From dental drills to the workshop… and into the barn

It all started with an idea. An idea for a piece of furniture that seamlessly combines a library with an armchair. A “Library Chair.” I searched high and low, but nothing like it was available here or anywhere else in Europe. There was only one thing left to do: build it ourselves. My husband is a dentist, and although he swapped his dental drill for a power drill and a saw at my request, he brought one thing from his clinic: an uncompromising eye for detail. Our first “development center” became an ordinary barn. Right there, amidst piles of wood and dust, the first Kniholo prototype was born. Because every millimeter counts in his profession, he applied the same surgical precision to the construction of the chair. Every joint and curve is designed so that the result is not only functional but also a masterpiece of craftsmanship. I added the hand-sewn upholstery, and our very first Kniholo was born.

I truly loved my new Library Chair. It was not only practical but also beautiful—exactly what I had envisioned. However, I wasn’t the only one who fell in love with it; every guest who visited our home felt the same. Soon, my husband was crafting a second, third, and fourth piece for our friends, their families, and friends of friends. That was the moment the idea was born: to offer our Library Chair to the world. And although our journey began in a barn, we left nothing to chance. We wanted to be certain that Kniholo would be more than just a design masterpiece—it had to be a safe, indestructible companion. We entrusted one of our pieces (the one you see in the photos) to the professionals at the furniture testing laboratory of the Textile Testing Institute in Brno. There, Kniholo underwent a series of rigorous stability and strength tests, including an incredible 25,000 seating cycles. It successfully passed and received an official certificate of conformity with strict European furniture standards. Because Kniholo is unique in every way, its original design is protected as a Registered Community Design (No. 009064165-0001), valid throughout the entire European Union.
